Augusto Akio’s Japanese ancestry has now emerged as a popular face ever since he took home the bronze at the 2024 Olympic Skate Park World Championships. Akio was born in Born on December 12, 2000 and at just age 23, he outperformed himself and took first place with 91.85 points.

The native of Curitiba proudly stood on the Olympic podium, a source of great pleasure for his family and all Brazilians. His trip to this point was not unusual. Hailing from a modest background, he began skateboarding at the age of seven, purchasing a basic model for 1.99 reais ($0.36). 

In addition to his accomplishments in skateboarding, Akio has made a name for himself in juggling. Akio suffered an injury three years ago that prevented him from practicing skateboarding. Then he started juggling, which he picked up fast.

Augusto Akio Doesn’t Follow Japanese Culture

Augusto Akio is of Brazilian ancestry from his father and Japanese descent from his mother. 

Despite living in Brazil, his mother and grandfather are of 100% Japanese background, and they still maintain Japanese culture. Nonetheless, Augusto views himself as Brazilian because he was born there. 

In addition, Akio is well-known in the skating world under the moniker “Japinha,” which translates to “Little Japanese Guy” in Portuguese and honours his mother’s side of the family.  Augusto traveled to Tokyo, Japan’s Makuhari Messe, on May 14, 2023, to do a skateboarding photo session. 

Parents of Augusto Akio always Support for Skateboarding

From an early age, Augusto Akio’s parents have encouraged him to pursue a career in skateboarding. Akio’s mother was adamant about his passion for skateboarding. He was inspired to write a letter to Santa Claus asking for a Christmas skateboard after seeing skateboarding on TV. 

Later on, his mother got him a new skateboard that lacked the concave and was extremely straight with only a small curvature. His father had always dreamed of him becoming the finest version of himself and accomplishing big things in skateboarding. With his family, Akio has a close relationship. He shared a family photo with his Instagram account on May 26, 2014, and he mentioned, “There is only one family, and there is no equal!!”

 He also shared his mother’s and maternal grandfather’s photo on his Instagram on April 19, 2022, and says “Thankyou Ditian”
